About

Dating back to the 17th century, the Smuggler’s Haunt was originally 2 cottages, and was the residence of notorious Devonshire smuggler Bob Elliot in 1851. Following a large find of tobacco, he escaped Revenue men by being placed in a large coffin built in the carpenter shop, which is now the hotel’s reception area.

Under recent new ownership, the hotel has undergone extensive transformations to breathe new life into this remarkable building. Breakfast is held in our beautiful nautically decorated restaurant,

Parking Information

We do not have parking at the Hotel.

The nearest public car park (Central CP) is approx. 100m from the Hotel. This is a short stay car park (max 3 hours). The closest long stay car park (Oxen Cove) is approx. 800m (10 minutes walk). Visitors can purchase a 3 day or 7 day car park pass in advance or on arrival, please visit the Council website for more information.
